The Little Black Box

I received my very first Little Black Box yesterday! I only ordered it a few days ago and was surprised to see it get here so soon. My LBB had a variety of things; including earrings, soaps, mini notecards, etc. Opening up my LBB was like Christmas morning...so many goodies inside! It was well worth the $23 I spent and I can't wait to order another one. I am also thinking about sending some of my own items to be distributed. Order your box here.

Mom A's Meat Loaf Recipe

I wasn't able to snap a photo of dinner last night before it was gone, so the above photo will have to do. This is Josh's mother's recipe that he loves so much so I thought I would give it a try.

Meat loaf Recipe
1-1.5lb. hamburger
1 pack of Lipton onion soup
2 eggs
1 pack of crushed crackers (I used wheat)
1/2 cup of worcestershire sauce
salt & pepper
1. Mix onion soup packet, eggs, worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper in a bowl.
2. In another bowl, cover hamburger with crushed crackers. Pour above mixture into second bowl and mix together with hands, kneading like dough.
3. Form meat into a loaf pan. (I didn't have one so I used a round corningware dish and it turned out just fine.)
4. Put ketchup over top evenly.
5. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Grandma's Fried Green Tomatoes

Josh and I ate dinner last night at my grandparent's house. At the end of every summer my Grandma fries up green tomatoes from my Grandpa's garden because it's my favorite side dish. Well, it usually turns into my main dish, yum.

Grandma's Fried Green Tomato Recipe
late green tomatoes
salt, pepper, & sugar
1. Slice tomatoes and dip in egg and milk batter, then dip in flour.
2. Fry until tomatoes are golden and tender.
3. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and sugar.
* Some people use cornmeal but we always use flour and they are divine!

Quote of the Day--Susan B. Anthony

"I can't say that the college-bred woman is the most contented woman. The broader her mind the more she understands the unequal conditions between men and women, the more she shafes under a government that tolerates it."

Quote(s) of the Day--Eleanor Roosevelt

She has just too many to pick only one.

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

"It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself."

"The encouraging thing is that every time you meet a situation, though you may think at the time it is an impossibility and you go through the tortures of the damned, once you have met it and lived through it you find that forever after you are freer than you ever were before."

Pumpkin Ice Cream

My husband and I discovered this delicious fall treat last season when we spent most of our grocery shopping time in the frozen food section. I love anything pumpkin and this ice cream completely captures the taste of pumpkin pie. I prefer mine smothered in chocolate fudge magic shell, but it's just as tasty with just a dollop of whip cream. If you're interested in trying it out, don't hesitate...it will only be here through the fall!
